Diaper ministry giveaway helps parents with free diapers, baby formula and more

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hundreds of parents in need lined up to get free diapers and baby formula Saturday through the Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry.

The ministry gave out diapers and formula from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 3845 Viscount Ave. in Memphis.

Volunteers gave out 600 cans of formula.

Founder Cori Smith said during the baby formula shortage the past few months, they’ve seen the line of families wrapped around the block become even longer during their giveaways.

She said they went from about 300 cars in line up to 700.

So far, she hasn’t had to turn anyone away.

“I was once in that spot and there was nothing anywhere like this for families, so when I found myself in need and I couldn’t find the help, I was like that’s a calling, that’s what I’m about to do, I’m about to make sure that no family has to struggle to provide for their families,” she said. “And we’re blessed that our community feels that we’re blessed and worthy for them to donate to us so that we can do this every month.”

The ministry also gave out feminine hygiene products and COVID-19 test kits.

Smith said they plan to continue hosting giveaways the last Saturday of each month.
