Officers from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency found the service member, who was not immediately identified, inside a car in the north parking lot, the Military Times and The Hill reported. Pentagon spokesman Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement obtained by The Hill that officials were responding to a welfare check around 3:30 p.m. when the man was found.

Paramedics with Arlington County Emergency Services were called and confirmed the man’s death, The Hill and Stars and Stripes reported.

“An investigation is ongoing,” Ryder said, according to Stars and Stripes. “We have no further details to announce while the investigation is ongoing.”

Authorities did not immediately say what service the man belong to or share details about the cause or manner of his death.
