The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that deputies were called to a nursery in Fallbrook just before 3 p.m. on Friday. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found at least three people with gunshot wounds.

North County Fire Protection District Capt. John Choi told KNSD that one person was killed, and two others were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Deputies took a man into custody after searching the nursery. The sheriff’s department did not identify the suspect.

Sheriff Kelly Martinez described the suspect as a 76-year-old man to KNSD and said that investigators did not know what connection the victims had to the nursery or the shooter.

On Twitter, California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said, “We are monitoring the shooting in San Diego and coordinating closely with local officials on this developing situation. Our thoughts are with those impacted by today’s act of violence, and all the Californians recovering from tragic shootings this year.”
