This tale is straight out of Compton.
Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department on Wednesday rescued a dog that fell into a septic tank hole in a Compton neighborhood, authorities said.
Crews were called at about 3:42 p..m. PST to try to rescue Maya, a 15-year-old German shepherd, KTLA-TV reported. According to the family of the animal, another dog stood over the sinkhole and barked, alerting them to Maya’s peril, according to the television station.
“It ended up being a septic tank,” Capt. Abe Serrano, with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, told KNBC. “It’s approximately 15 to 20 feet deep.”
The septic tank was empty and has been for many years, fire Capt. Captain Wade Kelsey told the television station.
“They have to take all safety precautions because they’re going into a confined space,” Serrano told KNBC. “They try to do everything expeditiously but they also have to take all safety precautions.”
