Tenn. task force has a goal to safely reopen the economy, member says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Governor Bill Lee formed a task force that weighed all of the variables to get everyone back to work as quickly and safely as possible.

The mayors of Tennessee’s four largest cities appointed the members of the task force.

Attorney Alan Crone is one of five people representing Memphis on the group made up of business and community leaders from Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga.

They got right to work the day after they were appointed.

"We've all made adjustments,” said Crone. “Memphis has made adjustments based on what Nashville has done, and Chattanooga based on what Knoxville is doing. Any combination in between."

According to Crone, he had a call with the state every day for the last week and a half.

"It has not gone along the normal governmental pace, which I will just say can sometimes be very deliberate," Crone said.

Crone added that he and the other members understood they had to move quickly, but with extreme caution with the health of so many people at risk.

"I think everybody, whether it's the governor or the mayor, the local health departments, everybody has been working with one goal in mind: To safely reopen the economy, get people back to work without squandering the shared sacrifice we've all made up to this point to reduce infection rates," Crone said.

The attorney believed that the most important part of this is for people to continue to be safe and to follow the guidelines that were laid out and practice social distancing.

That way, the financial sacrifices did mean something and we won’t have to endure that kind of hardship again.
