TDOT teams up with Redbirds, 901 FC to clean Memphis streets

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation is partnering with 901 FC and the Redbirds to host a cleanup event from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers will meet at AutoZone Park.

The cleanup effort is part of a statewide initiative called No Trash November. For the entire month, people are encouraged to pick up litter.

At an given time in the state, there are 100 million pieces of litter on the roads, which can cost TDOT up to $23 million annually to clean up.

“Our goal with No Trash November is to bring awareness of the litter issue in the state of Tennessee,” said Denise Baker, a Transportation Program Supervisor with TDOT. “We hope by volunteers collecting litter and making their peers aware of the litter problem in Tennessee. We will reduce litter.”
