Store owner reacts to Memphis liquor store burglarized 6 times in 6 months

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In less than two weeks, the owner of a Memphis liquor store has lost thousands of dollars because of smash-and-grab thieves.

Surveillance video shows suspects robbing Gordin’s Liquor and Wine near I-240 and Lamar Avenue.

And like so many other crimes like this, the thieves got away.

Store owner Toby Gordin told FOX13′s Cierra Jordan, that this latest robbery this past Sunday isn’t his first rodeo.

But he said this has been one of the worst robberies his store has ever dealt with in the 23 years he’s been in business.

“It made me sick to my stomach knowing that people are ok with this,” said Toby Gordin, Gordin’s Liquor and Wine owner.

Minutes after the clock hit midnight Sunday, Gordin got a call after the alarm system at his liquor store went off.

Memphis Police delivered the news:

Gordin’s Liquor and Wine at 1781 South Prescott Road were burglarized again.

“This is the sixth time I’ve been broken into in the past 6 months,” said Gordin.

Surveillance video shows four suspects using a sledgehammer.

They walked up to Gordin’s Liquor & Wine store and hit the front door about four times until the glass shattered.

Then they all entered the store.

“There’s a lobby area inside of the store, so they broke the glass in to get inside the lobby area. Then broke that door to get inside the store. They threw bottles, ransacked, and you know made a mess of itself,” Gordin said.

There’s been a string of liquor store burglaries across the city lately including Buster’s Wine and Liquor on Highland Street and Stellar Cellar Wine & Spirits in Cordova.

Gordin said he believes it’s the same group of men involved in stealing liquor from all of them.

" I hate it because this neighborhood is incredible. I love my customers; I love my employees and it’s sad because this is happening in their own backyard,” Gordin said.

Gordin said he will be installing metal bars to prevent thieves from breaking into his store.
