UPDATE 10:35 A.M.

Snow fell all over the Mississippi this morning and FOX13′s Shelia O’Connor had a little fun.

UPDATE 10:30 A.M.

Check out photos of the Winter Wonderland across the Mid-South.

UPDATE 6:30 A.M. 1/11/2021:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. across North Mississippi.

Temperatures across the Mid-South are at or below freezing this morning.

Wind chills are in the 20s.

Temperatures will move above freezing this afternoon, still in the 30s.

Snow is falling across areas of Mississippi and areas of Arkansas.

Snow will move out by lunchtime.

Driving could be hazardous this morning.

Overnight temperatures will be in the 20s.

UPDATE 4:30 A.M. 1/11/2021:

Snow flurries can be seen this morning in Hernando and other parts of North Mississippi.

UPDATE 8 P.M. 01/10/2021:

Snow flurries will be possible tonight into Monday.

Light snow continues to look likely in the Mid-South midnight to noon Monday. Cold air in place but how much moisture makes it this far north will ultimately determine who sees snow and who does not.

Snow accumulations will be minor ranging from a possible dusting in Dyersburg to up to 1″ of wet snow in Oxford.

North Mississippi will see the highest snow accumulations across the Mid-south.

Memphis and Shelby County can expect to see a dusting to up to a half inch of snow. Temps will be right at or above freezing while it is snowing Monday morning.

Bridges and overpasses will be very slick while slick spots are possible on the rest of the roads. Road conditions will quickly improve by the afternoon with highs into the low 40s and upper 30s Monday.

However, anything that does not dry up from the roads Monday will turn into black ice Monday night into Tuesday morning.

UPDATE 9 A.M. 01/10/2021:

The forecast remains on track for a low impact snow event for the Mid-South with some minor accumulations.

The lack of moisture remains the biggest threat to our forecast.

The track of the low is expected to stay near the Gulf coast – meaning the Mid-South’s available moisture will be limited even though temperatures will be cold enough.

The timing of isolated snow showers/flurries to begin will be after midnight for our southern counties, spreading north through the early Monday morning hours. This means the commute could be a little slippery for parts of the Mid-South.

The most likely scenario for snow totals will be under 1/2″ for all.

Shelby and surrounding counties should see a tenth of an inch or less, while areas in north MS could see up to 1″.

Temperatures will be near freezing tomorrow morning with wind chills in the 20s and warm into the upper 30s for the afternoon.

Any moisture left will turn to rain and any snow that falls will melt.

Temperatures dip below freezing again Monday night so isolated slick spots are possible early Tuesday – especially along bridges and overpasses.

UPDATE 7 p.m. 01/09/2021:

The FOX 13 Weather Team continue to track the potential for rain & snow from late Sunday night into Monday.

Snow chances are looking less likely as the track of the storm has shifted slightly further south. Snow & rain will be likely across parts of North Mississippi.

Temps will be above freezing allowing for the snow to melt as it comes down. This will greatly limit snow accumulations and impacts to roads. Bridges and overpasses could see slick spots while roads remain wet.

There is a 20% chance for snow flurries Monday morning in Memphis with a dusting at best possible.

While Oxford, Miss. 50+ miles away has a 50% chance for light snow leading to a dusting to 1″ of slushy accumulation.

Temps will continue to rise through the morning into the afternoon changing over the snow to all rain by the afternoon. However, most of the precipitation will be exiting during the early afternoon.

Anything that does not dry up Monday night will turn to black ice by Tuesday morning.

UPDATE 11 a.m. 01/09/2021:

The chance for snow on Monday continues to be a possibility for some in the Mid-South.

The forecast still remains in question as to how much moisture will be available early Monday morning. Temperatures will be near freezing at the onset of precipitation but the amount of moisture could be lacking for any widespread accumulations.

The timing of the rain and snow looks to start late Sunday night and lasts through midday on Monday.

Again, the available moisture will be limited, so just a dusting is forecast for some while others could see more. Specific area accumulations should come into better focus over the next 24 hours.

As of now, accumulations should all stay under 1″. North MS has our best chance to see accumulation as they’re closer to the available moisture.

IMPACTS: Even though accumulations won’t be impressive, roads could be slippery on Monday and Tuesday morning. Any rain or melted snow that falls on Monday could freeze Monday night as temperatures dip into the 20s. Please be mindful of bridges and overpasses while traveling early in the week.

This forecast is subject to adjustments over the weekend so stick around and download the Fox 13 Weather App! Also, Meteorologist Yasser Kishk will have the latest on Fox 13 tonight!

ORIGINAL STORY:

North Mississippi will have the greatest potential to see rain and snow Monday. However, rain and snow chances are looking healthier even further south between Oxford and Jackson, Miss.

Temperatures are expected to be a couple of degrees above freezing during the event which would greatly limit snow accumulations.

A dusting to 1″ of wet heavy snow could be possible across North Mississippi. A Dusting to no snow is possible in Memphis and Shelby County on Monday.

Most of the rain and snow will exit during the afternoon hours on Monday. The Monday morning commute could be tricky for some of us.

FOX 13 will continue to post updates as we’re tracking this system very closely for you.
