MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The need for food in the Mid-South is huge right now.

FOX13 anchor Darrell Greene talked to the President and CEO of the Mid-South Food Bank Cathy Pope.

In a typical April, Pope said the food Bank usually distributes about 1 million pounds of food within the 30 day period. So far this month, they’ve given out nearly 3 million pounds of food.

“We are at 2.8 million,” Pope said. “That's so indicative of the need we have in this community. The need is huge. We will do a distribution for 500 families, and 800 cars will be lined up. It's almost no matter how often we are doing these distributions, the need is so great.”

It is still okay to drop off food at the Food Bank. They ask that you call ahead of time so they know you are coming.

Pope said the very best way to help the Mid-South Food Bank is to go to its website and hit the donate button. “That is the very best way you can help,” she said.
