Issues at East Memphis intersection causing some cars to go airborne or bottom out

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — You’re driving along and suddenly you don’t see the big dip in the road ahead of you, and it may cause your car to launch into the air while you’re driving.

That’s what’s happening to people driving at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Midland Avenue., right next to FOX13 Studios.

It has been causing issues for about a week, apparently part of the design of the renovation of the Highland Strip, which has been underway for nearly a year, and was approved by the Memphis city council and Shelby County Commissioners.

“We were working, and I saw cars leaving the ground,” said David Pollard, who said he had done separate work as a part of the renovations to the Highland Strip.

It is part of the $6 million project.

The organization University Neighborhoods Development Corporation is behind it.

A spokesperson for the City of Memphis said the city engineering department was sending a contractor Wednesday to examine the issue.

FOX13′s reporter Dakari Turner reached out to University Neighborhoods Development Corporation and hasn’t heard back yet.
