How rain could impact football and festivities in Memphis on Saturday

Memphis, Tenn. — Between the Memphis Tigers football game and the return of the Cooper-Young Festival, it should be a fun-filled Saturday in the Bluff City.

However, it could rain on your parade if you’re out and about enjoying the excitement during the day.

Here’s what you need to know before you leave the house to go to Cooper-Young Festival or the Mississippi State vs. Memphis football game.

SATURDAY MORNING

If you’re heading out early to enjoy the Cooper-Young Festival, you should be ok for most of the morning.

Temperatures will start out in the low 70′s with muggy air. However, some minor showers could pop up throughout the city early in the morning.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON

If you’re out around lunchtime, you’ll want to have an umbrella with you.

Temperatures will rise into the low 80′s and more showers will start to develop around this time and spread out over the Mid-South.

The rain shouldn’t keep you off the streets altogether but may prove annoying for your tailgating plans or give you some pause before walking around the blocks of Cooper-Young.

MISSISSIPPI STATE VS. MEMPHIS KICKOFF

Around the time the Bulldogs and the Tigers start playing at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium at 3 p.m., temperatures will hit about 88 degrees.

Rain will continue to fall from scattered showers off and on and, while it’ll probably be inconvenient, it shouldn’t be a total washout.

Some of the heavier storms may bring a few rumbles of thunder, but no strong to severe thunderstorms are expected.

SATURDAY NIGHT

The scattered showers that pop up around Memphis should be losing some juice around Saturday evening.

Rain chances decrease and the showers will fall apart, hopefully making a pleasant end to Cooper-Young Fest and allowing you to celebrate your favorite team’s win on Beale St.
