Deputies looking for suspects in carjackings and robberies across Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — The search continues for the people driving these two stolen cars: a 2016 Infiniti Q50 and a white 2010 Chevy Tahoe.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office told FOX13 criminals are stealing cars to commit crimes like carjackings, car thefts, home robberies and more.

“You can’t do anything that is safe anymore. You can’t do it alone,” said Glenda Wright.

Since January, Lakeland has seen a string of carjackings, home robberies and a homicide.

“We having upwards of thousands of vehicles a year in Memphis or Shelby County that are stolen and being used in other crimes and also being recovered here,” said Sgt. David Mays of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

From Jan 6-21, investigators said these two vehicles, a blue 2016 Infiniti Q50 and a white 2010 Chevy Tahoe were used in a crime spree.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Tahoe was used in a home burglary in Lakeland on Jan. 14.

Two suspects dressed in all black robbed a couple at gunpoint forcing themselves into their home.

Investigators said one suspect made one of the victims send $600 through a Cashapp account called Tayg4way owned by Tay Guapo.

While the other suspect reportedly stole a TV, PS4 game console and iPhone.

The victims lost $11,050.

Community members said they do not feel safe.

“It makes me feel uncomfortable. They’re targeting older people now, which is a shame. older people do not have a chance anymore,” said Wright.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging the community to follow these safety tips:

  • Always have your keys out before leaving a building and heading to your car.
  • Check your surroundings before getting out of your car.
  • Never leave a purse, backpack or anything valuable in your car.

“Just keep being attentive and a close eye on everything. Times are hard but you got to do what you have to do,” said William Dooch.

The Sheriff’s Office said the suspects are still on the loose but the cars have been recovered.
