Beale Street once again prime destination for New Year celebrations

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — From Georgia to North Carolina to Alabama and even Oklahoma.

Tourists have traveled from near and far to ring in the New Year in the Bluff City.

”We’re going to come here for New Year’s Eve,” said Nini Russ, a tourist who is visiting Memphis with her friend until Monday.

They were ready to welcome 2023 on Beale Street.

”Music, dancing, people, good camaraderie. I’m ready for that,” said Yev Marseille, another visitor.

And there will be no shortage of it.

The president of the Downtown Memphis Commission, Paul Young, said that there will be several New Year’s Eve parties at bars and restaurants in the entertainment district.

”We are looking forward to everyone coming out and having a nice, safe, good time,” Young said.

He also said that there’ll be heavy police presence as well as security officers patrolling the entertainment district, which requires a fee to enter.

”We will screen all guest entering the street all night,” Young said. “We will be bringing in extra security guards. MPD is going to supply additional officers. We have installed additional overheard exterior lighting throughout the district.”

“I hope to just have fun with my family. Have great time,” said Braxton Broad, a tourist.
